You’re Gonna Cry 93 Studios

The website 93 Studios reviewed Wage Slaves and gave it 3-1/2 out of five stars:
Drama is hard with web series. Drama is really hard, so when someone makes the attempt I have to give them credit, when someone does it well it deserves a mention. Wage Slaves does it well….
[T]he overall story arc is catchy and watching the main character develop is strangely compelling.
I wonder if that first sentence was supposed to be “Comedy is hard”; seems weird to repeat the same idea in the next sentence. At any rate, I’m pleased they took the time to watch and review the show.
This continues to be the biggest overall ding against the show:
I am all for low budget productions, and honestly I like this show a lot but you can really, really tell that its being shot out of a kitchen. I wish that somewhere in the pilot they would have explained why that is, or told us it was a quaint bed and breakfast place that sold coffee or something.
Yeah. I took it for granted that, since Portland has several coffee shops located in houses (here’s the one that inspired the Rose City Coffeehouse, and here’s another), other places did, too. I even took it for granted that Portland residents have seen and been to those coffee shop/houses, which has not always been the case.
Seriously, people. They exist. And I like them.
Lara is already hell-bent on making sure this same complaint doesn’t come up during Season 2.

Thanks for the mention! I wrote that review after watching the entire series cover to cover, so let me toss my 3 1/2 cents into the ring.
1. I really, really like the show. I think I said that a few times in the review. Other than the kitchen thing which you kindly explained and I’m happy to know about, I was pretty positive on everything. Is it perfect? Probably not, but what is?
2. I meant “Drama is hard” there because while there are comedic elements to the show, after watching closing in on 100 web series (hundreds of hour of video) I would say that by comparison the plots lean more towards the dramatic. I am not sure if this was a conscious choice or just where to writing took you but I like it and I’m sure it helps the show “work.”
3. Something I need to explain about the ratings. We screened a -lot- of video. If it made it to the cutting room floor it meant we liked it a great deal. That being the case we were relatively hard on the ones that made it for just that reason. As it stands we’ve given out 0 5 star ratings, a tiny handful of 4.5s and the vast majority hover between 2.5-4. Even with that I tried to explain my feelings because sometimes the numbers don’t represent my views as well as the words do.
Either way, we’re not crying
and I am actually quite pleased that you saw the review and deemed it worth mentioning. I am sincerely looking forward to the second season of the show and I will be following it carefully.

Thanks, Steve! I appreciate the comments — and, of course, the review. I’m looking forward to you (and everyone else) watching Season 2!
